#Suicide: 59,000 Farmers Have Killed Themselves As Temperatures Rise in #India.

Across India’s hinterland, the unbearable scorching temperatures throughout 'key agricultural seasons' have driven thousands of farmers to despair and Suicide.

Over the past three decades, the temperatures have risen so high that the impact on crop yields caused estimated 59,000 farmer suicides according to a study by a researcher, Tamma A Carleton, of the University of California, Berkeley.For many weeks of this current summer, farmers from Tamil Nadu, the southern Indian state subjected to one of the worst droughts in over a century, have staged a mass protest in New Delhi in order to lobby the Narendra Modi government for a relief package.
